Refund and cancellation policy
Version 2026-09, in force from 2026-09-14. This is the platform policy. Each event also has its own refund rules, shown on the event page before you pay, and those rules decide the amount.
1. Who refunds you
SportSA refunds you on the organizer's behalf. You ask us, we pay you back, and we settle it with the organizer afterwards. You do not have to chase the organizer for your money.
2. If you cancel your entry
The event's refund rules say how much comes back and by when, usually as a percentage that falls as the event gets closer, and often with a cancellation fee. The exact amount is shown before you confirm the cancellation, and no cancellation is processed without you seeing it first.
The cancellation fee is retained by SportSA for handling the refund. The service fee on the entry is not refunded, because the service it paid for has been provided.
3. If the organizer cancels or changes the event
- Cancelled: you are refunded the full amount you paid for the entry.
- Postponed: your entry moves to the new date. If the new date does not suit you, you can ask for a
refund on the terms above.
- Materially changed, for example a shorter route or a different venue: tell us and we look at it with
the organizer.
4. Transfers and changes instead of a refund
Where the organizer allows it, you can transfer your entry to somebody else or change category rather than cancelling. A category change to a cheaper category refunds the difference under the same rules; a change to a more expensive one asks you for it.
5. Medical and other exceptions
Some events allow a medical exception with a doctor's note. Whether one exists, and what it requires, is on the event's refund rules. Where an event allows it, we ask for the note and pass the decision to the organizer.
6. How the money comes back
A refund goes back to the card or account you paid from, not anywhere else. Banks usually take three to ten working days after we send it. Cash paid at an on-site desk is refunded at the desk by the organizer.
7. If you disagree
Write to us and we look at it again. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 are not affected by anything in this policy, including the right to cancel an advance booking, which the Act allows subject to a reasonable cancellation charge.
